2015/2016: Imo Poly Holds 36th Matriculation

The Imo state Polytechnic,
Umuagwo, Owerri, recently held  her thirty-sixth (36th) matriculation exercise for Batch 2015/2016 students of the institution.
The matriculation exercise which commenced at about 10.45am with a well-organized procession of the school principal officers, involved a large turn-up of the concerned students.
In his address, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Rv. Fr. Dr. Wencelaus Madu, commended the special contributions of Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) towards the progress and achievements of the institution.
He assured the public of the continuous provision of necessary and conducive atmosphere for quality technical studies in the polytechnic with the assistance of benefactors.
The Rector praised the achievements of the institution in the areas of establishment of international linkages with notable institutions, skill acquisition programmes and modern scientific innovations.
The Rector also reaffirmed the dedication of the polytechnic  would continue to consolidate on the already existing transformation going on in the institution.
He therefore, urged the matriculating students to shun all the vices associated with higher institutions such as ‘sorting’, examination malpractices, prostitution and cultism.
In his own address, the governor of the state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, being represented by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Eke Anyawu, commended the polytechnic on its numerous achievements and advised the authorities to encourage massive agricultural activities for food production. He advised all the matriculants to abide by the contents of the matriculation oath taken to enable them succeed in their educational pursuit.
He assured the students of the governor’s determination to continue with the on-going free education programme in all the government owned higher institutions in the state.
The governor also praised the ingenuity of the Rector of the school, in repositioning the school.
In his own speech, the traditional Ruler of Umuagwo, community, Eze Tony Oguezie, expressed delight in the level of peace existing in Umuagwo presently and promised of its sustenance. He urged the Rector to continue to expand the infrastructural development of the school owing to the large expanse of land made available by his community- Umuagwo.
The traditional ruler who cleared the air on the insuations in some quarters that his community is opposing the creation of satellite campuses out of the parent institution blamed it on communication gap between the school and the host community-Umuagwo. He advised the Imo government to consider the huge financial investment of people in around the school before embarking on major relocation of some ‘schools’.
