World AIDS Day: RSG Begins Free Treatment, Today
The Rivers State Government will today commence free voluntary medical test and treatments across the 23 local government areas as part of its 2015 World AIDS Day celebration in the state.
In a statement by the press officer of the state Ministry of Health, Paul Bazih-Nsaneh, said the opening ceremony of the free medical test and treatments would first commence at state secretariat complex to mark world AIDS Day in the state.
According to the statement, the free medical care exercise with the theme: Getting to zero” was planned by the state government to exploit the service of medical experts in the state to freely handle all such cases in the state.
The statement called on citizens of the state to take advantage of the exercise, saying that time-table for the free medical care in the 23 local government areas of the state would be unveiled today at the official opening ceremony of the 2015 World AIDS Day in Port Harcourt.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Health, Mrs Caroline Wali has stated the ministry’s readiness to partner with stakeholders in the health sector to ensure malaria, TB, HIV and reproductive health programme is given top priority to improve quality health service delivery in the state.
Mrs Wali disclosed this Friday while addressing the 4thg quarter of 2015 regional procurement and supply plan technical working group (PSMTWG) meeting in Port Harcourt.
According to the permanent secretary, the group was instituted by Pharmaceutical experts from the Niger Delta region of Nigeria to plan and proffers health solutions to sickness and diseases emanating from exploration and exploitation of mineral resources in the area.
She tasked the group and the John Snow Incorporated to ensure the continuous availability of quality health commodities for uninterrupted service delivery through an effective supply chain system.
She commended the development partners like FH1360, HYGBIA, Clinton Health Access, Pathfinder, Africare, among others for working closely with government of the region for sustainability of donor-funding in public health.
Speaking, the Director, Pharmaceutical Service, Abia State pharmacist, Uzuegbu Mike Chimezie thank the Rivers State government for their supports and good partnership with the group for quality health delivery in the region.
