Wike Seeks Waiver For Security Helicopters

Rivers State Governor, Chief  Nyesom Wike, has called on the Federal Government to give a waiver to the state in taking delivery of  its two armoured helicopters for security surveillance .
Wike made the call when he played host to the Assistant Inspector General Police in charge of Zone 6, Mr. Baba Adisa Bolanta on Wednesday in Government House, Port Harcourt.
The governor’s request followed revelation by the AIG  that the Inspector General of Police has allocated one security surveillance  helicopter to cover the zone comprising Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Cross River States
The governor assured that when once the two helicopters are released, it would help boost security and check crimes in the interior areas saying, “ we will do all we can to support the police on logistics against crime.”
Already he stated that the state government had donated 65 vehicles to the police and other security agencies, adding that, “ I have also directed the local government councils to provide addtional two vehicles each to assist security agencies in their area.”
He said security is key to the administration to attract investors and sustain business activities and warned that the government will not condone any form of criminality, “ we are going to make sure that criminals are not covered. It’s not going to be business as usual.”
The governor also commended the efforts of the police and other security agencies in combating crime in that state and urged them that, “ ”On no account  should  the police release  the suspects  of kidnapping,  cultism  and armed robbery  without  proper  investigation  and prosecution. I have directed the state Attorney-General to ensure that all legal loopholes during prosecution are checked to ensure that suspected criminals are discouraged .”
Earlier,  AIG Zone 6,  Baba Adisa  Bolanta further commended Governor  Wike  for mobilising support in the local  government  areas  for the  police  to fight crime.
He said  security  is an expensive  venture,  pointing  out  that  the  Police  will continue  to  seek more support  from the  state government. He said he was in Rivers State for a familiarisation visit. The police chief noted that a helicopter had been devoted to Rivers,  Akwa  Ibom, Bayelsa and Cross River States.
He assured  the people of  the state of a crime -free Christmas  and  New  Year  celebration ad the police  have developed  new strategies  to tame criminality.
