PCC Plans Seminars For Perm Secs, Directors In Rivers
The Public Complaints Commissioner for Rivers State, Dr. Alpheaus Paul-Worika, has charged the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC) to sanitise the state civil service by addressing cases of maladministration and injustice.
Paul_Worika, who gave the charge when he visited the Rivers State Civil Service Commission, disclosed that the Public Complaints Commission had received many cases of denial of promotions and other issues of maladministration in the service.
He decried a situation where workers remained on a particular grade level for years while their counterparts in other parts of the same service were receiving accelerated promotion, noting that it was capable of tarnishing the image of the state.
The commissioner said, the visit was critical in view of the unique position of RSCSC and the need for collaborative efforts to bring sanity and justice in the civil service system, and added that the commission planned to organise seminars for senior civil servants, permanent secretary and directors in the state.
Speaking, the Chairman of RSCSC, Chief Oris Onyiri, commended the leadership of PCC for its renewed vigor in addressing administrative injustice in the state, stating that the new leadership of the civil service commission had developed a template to help reduce the level of complaints in the civil service.
He said the visit of the federal commissioner would create a new working relationship with RSCSC, and assured the PCC of their readiness to give necessary support in resolving complaints by civil servants.
Onyiri said the RSCSC would look into the cases highlighted by the public complaints commissioner, and promised to participate in the seminar proposed for permanent secretaries, directors and other senior civil servants in the state.
