The Executive Chairman, Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, Mr. Debo Adeniran has called on President Muhammadu Bhari to prevail on anti-graft agencies to investigate the failed N76 billion Closed – Circuit Television project in the federal Capital Territory.
According to a statement made available to our source, the Civil Society group called for a thorough investigation of the project, which was initiated in 2010 by late President Umaru Yar’Adua.
Adeniran observed that in the recent past, Abuja has come under series of deadly attacks and the CCTV Cameras installed across the city have failed to pick up images of the perpetrators of such acts.
The statement which described the project as a colossal wastage of the nation’s reasources called for the prosecution of people who have benefitted from the project illegally.
The statement further emphasised that between 2010 when the project was initiated and now, Abuja has come under seven deadly attacks, leaving scores of people dead and property worth billions of naira, destroyed.
According to the statement, it was against this back drop that the group found it necessary to bring the attention of the President on the need to investigate the procedure of the contract award and executions as well as probe individuals and firms that participated in the failed project.
“This means someone would be held responsible for the failure of this project. Enough of spending billions of tax payers’ money on white elephant projects”, the statement said.
It could be recalled that the project which was initiated by the late President Umaru Yar’Adua was conceived to help security agencies in the FCT check the growing insecurity in the region, but insurgents have over and over again launched violent attacks on the city without being detected.
