Ex-Councillor Empowers 50 Widows In Port Harcourt

About 50 widows and members of the Creek Road Market Association have been presented with various empowerment items by a former councillor of ward seven in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Gloria Kalada Nonju.
Speaking during the empowerment programme, Hon. Nonju said that the scheme was to show love to the less privileged in the society particularly the widows.
She urged the benefitting widows to see the gesture as her contributions towards ameliorating them plight and promised to extend the gesture to all widows in the market.
The former councillor also said that the gesture was not politically motivated and called for continuous prayers. She urged those who have not benefitted from the first phase to exercise patience as they will also be included in the programme.
Meanwhile, the benefitting widows have thanked the former councillor for her support towards alleviating their plights.
Speaking with newsmen during the programme, one of the widows, Mrs Florence Clifford said that, it was the second time the former councilor has responded to the needs of widows in the market.
Mrs Clifford also described the former councilor as a detribalized Nigerian, adding that all ethnic nationalities operating in the market benefitted from the scheme and used the occasion to assure the former councilor of the association’s support.
On her part, the Secretary of the Association, Mrs Jeneth Ngogo described Hon. Nonju as a God sent leader, stressing that apart from individual benefits, the Association has also benefitted as a body.
She also assured her of the Association’s support at all times and urged other philanthropists in the area to identify with the needs of widows in the market.
Also speaking, Hon. Darka Johnson at thanked the former Councillor for her philanthropic gesture and urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the scheme.
He also called for continous prayers for Hon. Gloria Nonju.
