S’East Pensioners Decry Non-Payment Of Arears
The South-East zone of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners has pleaded with the Federal Government to intervene on the non-payment of their 15 years pension and gratuities by some governors in the area.
This plea is contained in a six-point communique, issued by the union at the end of its zonal meeting on Saturday in Abakaliki.
The communique, which was signed by the standing Zonal Chairman,Prince Clement Igwe and the Zonal Secretary,Evang Ashiegbu, lamented the condition of pensioners in the South East.
The forum frowned at the non-implementation of the 6,15 and 33 per cent increase in pension by governments in the zone.
“This situation has made state pensioners receive less pension than their counterparts in other states.
“Based on this development, the South East forum is calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, to intervene,” the communique stated.
The meeting also urged the Federal Government to compel state governments who had not implemented the contributory pension Act of 2004, to key into the scheme immediately.
