Rivers State Depty Govennor, Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry-Banigo (rght), receiving the leader of the Rights Monitoring Group (RMG), Comrade Olufemi Aduwo, during a courtesy call at Government House, Port Harcourt, yesterday.

The Rivers State Government, has expressed readiness to collaborate with international development agencies towards realising the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) projects under the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the state.
The state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, stated this when a delegation of Rights Monitoring Group of the World Bank headed by Olufemi Aduwo, paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Wike, who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo, said the assessment tour by the group would create the needed awareness on environmental issues and its impact on the people of the state.
He noted that the visit to impacted sites by the NGO would afford the delegation first-hand knowledge of the peculiar challenges facing the state in the execution of the post-MDGs projects.
The state chief executive urged the group to embark on honest assessment of areas devastated by flood, oil and gas activities.
“We are happy that we have opportunity for your NGO to assess what is going on in our environment. Please, try to be transparent and honest about the issues affecting our state and the people,” he said.
The governor said his administration would continue to provide conducive working environment for law-abiding citizens and investors to pursue their legitimate businesses, and assured the delegation of government’s preparedness to support them with necessary logistics.
Earlier, Leader of the Rights Monitoring Group, Olufemi Aduwo, had said the group was in the state to assess the areas of flooding, emission of gas, oil spill and other global issues affecting the state.
Aduwo said the group has the mandate of the World Bank under the Special Intervention Scheme (SIS) to monitor and report challenges facing the area, and thanked the state government for its support and commitment.
