The Rivers State Government has said that, traders at the Ikoku motor spare parts market, in Port Harcourt cannot decide who to recognise and who not to recognise in the on-going construction of the ultra- modern motor spare parts market at Iriebe.
The State Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Emmah Okah said this, in an interview with The Tide in his office in Port Harcourt, while reacting to comments by concerned members of the Port Harcourt Motor Parts Dealers Union, that Spare Parts Automobile Technicians Limited (SPAT) does not represent the interest of motor spare parts dealers at Ikoku Market.
Mr. Okah also said that the Spare Parts Automobile Technicians Limited (SPAT) was incorporated to work with the Director, Port Harcourt City Development Authority for the purpose of actualising the vision of the state Government towards the relocation of the traders to the spare parts centre at Iriebe.
The Commissioner also said that the ultra modern motor spare parts market which will be completed in 18 months is meant not only for Ikoku spare parts dealers, but others across the state, the country and other parts of the world.
The concerned members of the Port Harcourt Motor Parts Dealers Union had in a press briefing accused one Mr. Maxwell Anuonye of secretly incorporating a private limited liability company; “Spare Parts Automobile Technicians limited for the purpose of the Spare Parts Centre which they added does not represents the interest of the traders.
While commending the State Governor for the ground-breaking ceremony of the spare parts centre at Iriebe, they however warned the government against working with wrong persons as far as the project is concerned.
“We are however very worried that in embarking on this very laudable protect His Excellency and indeed the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority have failed to deal with the actual and authentic leaders of the spare parts dealers in Ikoku and Mile 3 Inspite of our previous letters to the Rivers State Government and the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority on the matter”.
On his part, President of the Port Harcourt Motor Parts Dealers Union, Mr. Maxwell Anuonye denied owning SPAT saying  that he was just one of the directors of the company.
He also described the concern members as faceless group and urged the public to discountenance them.
