Rivers Names New Judges, Others, Soon
Poised to build efficient judiciary system in the state, the Rivers State judiciary, says it would soon embark on the appointment of Judges and magistrates in the state.
The state acting Chief Judge, Justice Daisy. W. Okocha disclosed this when she granted audience to the state executive branch of the International Federation of Female Lawyers (FIDA), who paid her a courtesy visit in her office last Friday in Port Harcourt.
Justice Okocha stated that the state governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has given the approval for the appointment of new judges and magistrates and other Judiciary staff, adding that the move would impact positively in the administration of Justice in the state.
According to her, the appointment would be based on merit and in accordance with stipulated rules and guidelines, adding that there would be no form of favouritism in the selection process.
The acting Chief Judge while responding to the appeal made by the state FIDA chairperson that women should be given some consideration averred there would be no room for rules to bend in this selection process.
“We have women lawyers who have integrity and edge over their male counter parts in the state, this has been proven all over the country. We will appoint judges based on stipulated guidelines .
Justice Okocha stressed that the selection process would be highly competitive whether male or female, adding that she was optimistic that female lawyers would pass the screaming procedures without stress.
She lauded FIDA in the state for their advocacy and legal responsibility they are carrying in the state and assured of the administration support to the association even as she use the occasion to inform them of the forthcoming legal week in the state and assured that they would be intimated of the activities for the programme accordingly.
