Postal Dev: NIPOST Decries FG’s Nonchallant Attitude
As the 2015 edition of the World’s Post Day celebration draws closer, a senior postal worker in Port Harcourt has decried the attitude of the Federal Government towards postal development.
A top official of the Nigeria postal service (NIPOST), Port Harcourt Territorial Headquarter, who spoke with The Tide Wednesday in Port Harcourt, said they are planning a low-key celebration due to handship in the industry.
He said up till date the Federal Government was yet to come up with clear budget about the world’s Post Day celebration on 12th of this month.
According to the source, they are now brainstorming with the state government on how to handle the year’s edition of the post celebration, especially in the area of funds.
He said that the commission has not been placed in its rightful position, judging from the standards of other postal system across the globe.
He explained that the industry ought to be one of the most vibrant in the country due to its position in mail handling and other similar works.
The Tide was told that the 2015 edition of the world Post Day in Port Harcourt, would have been shelved if not for some internal arrangements in the state.
He was of the view that the Nigerian postal system was lagging behind in the aspect of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and further appealed for upgrading of some facilities in the service so as to effect smooth service delivery.
