NITP Ups Fellowship Admission Criteria
Henceforth, admission of members into the fellowship class of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners (NITP), without clear cut criteria will no longer be tolerated.
The institute, after deliberations at the College of Fellows Committee meeting in Abuja, declared that it has come up with fresh clear-cut criteria.
In the past, a 10-year full membership with active participation and practice in administration, research or academics which qualified an aspiring fellow would no longer suffice.
It was recommended that in addition to being an active member for 10 years, an aspiring fellow must possess the following parameter: Activeness- he or she must maintain membership of a chapter, evidence of regular attendance at meetings and programmes of chapter and have financial responsibility, be regular at national programmes, attend mandatory continous professional development programme (MCPSPs), among others.
Other parameters listed by the committee, which was chaired by a past president of the institute, Waheed Kadiri, include, Practice, Administration, Research, Academics and General, where requirements were also listed.
The committee also stipulated that of the six parameters, activeness carries 25 maks, while the other five carry 15 marks each making up 100 marks with a 60 per cent cut off recommendation.
Kadiri expressed hope, saying, “it is hoped that if these parameters are followed, there would be some measure of objectiveness and als provide a level playing ground for all intending fellows of the institute”.
The fellowship class is the highest level of membership.
