Floods: ONELGA Communities Also Hit
The Rivers State Government State Government has confirmed the spread of flooding to some communities in Ogba Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.
The permanent secretary Rivers State Ministry of Special Duties, Mrs Ibunibo Briggs-Iti who made this known in an interview with The Tide in her office in Port Harcourt, said that the ministry has been informed of the presence of flooding in some communities in Ogba Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.
Mrs Iti who however did not confirmed the names of the affected communities said that the ministry is urging the residents to move to the two internally displace persons (IDP) camps established in Ogba Egbema/Ndoni Local Government.
According to her, the two camps established in the area are already equipped with state of the Art facilities to cater for the number of displaced persons that will be affected in the incident.
She also said that distribution of relief materials will start as soon as affected persons evacuate to the camps. The permanent secretary urged the public not to punic as the government is dong everything to alleviate their sufferings.
Meanwhile, the president of Onelga youth council, Mr Kingsley Ogwumike, has urged the government to come to the aide of communities in the area.
Mr Ogwunike who stated this in a telephone interview with The Tide said that some communities are already experiencing the effect of the flooding. He said that the situation is also effecting the livelihood of the people as farmlands have been destroyed. He further said that the youth council is working hard to ensure that people are safely evacuated from affected areas.
