Don Urges Proper Ministerial Nominees Screening
A Professor of the Department of Political Science , University of Nigeria Nsukka, Prof. Aloysius Okolie has urged senators to be thorough in screening the ministerial nominees of President Mohammadu Buhari.
Okolie told newsmen in Nsukka that the quality of ministers approved by the senate, would determine the success or failure of the present administration in its fight against corruption.
“Senators should close ranks, irrespective of party affiliations, and ensure that only nominees who have good track records are approved as ministers.
“It is another opportunity for the senate to prove to the world that the legislature is independent and meant well for the country, ‘he said.
He advised the senate to ensure that nominees that had allegations of corruption hanging on their necks, were cleared before being screened.
“The senate should take a careful look at petitions or allegations of corruption against any nominee before screening him or her.
“It will not be in the interest of the country to have an appointed minister devoting much of his time going to court to defend allegations of corruption against him or her, “ he said.
