Agric Manager Advises Poultry Farmers On December Sales
The Programme Manager, Enugu State Agricultural Development Programme (ENADP), Mr Onyema Nwodo, has advised poultry farmers to start early in preparing their chickens for December sales.
Nwodo told newsmen in Enugu that the farmers should purchase their day-old broilers around September for them to be matured for sale in December
The programme manager said three months was even enough to prepare very good broilers against December sales.
He said that he gave the advice because of the usually high demand for poultry products in the area in December.
“When you order birds like layers day-old chickens, you will find out that you have to order them early enough to get the best choice and then organise the feed.
“You have to save the money for the feed and then if it is credit facilities you have to apply early enough.
“We also advise them that those birds that are produced may not be sold during Christmas but in New Year period upwards.
“Usually, the common thing is that people who have money may have contributed in buying cows and sharing them for Christmas.
“But immediately after Christmas they will need the chickens because they want to partake in end of the year parties, programmes, traditional marriages, final funeral rites among other occasions,” Nwodo said.
