Two Employees In Court Over N1.9m Theft
Two employees,
Emmanuel Kolawole and Onoja David, were on Friday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged theft of N1.9million from their employer.
The accused persons : Kolawole, 28, of No.5, Olaitan St. Ota, Ogun and David,27, who resides at No.20, Emordi St., Olodi Apapa, Lagos are both facing charges of fraud, conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Rapheal Donny, told the court that the accused committed the offences between February and May at Jedidiah Air Affairs Ltd., Domestic Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
He said that the accused with some others still at large conspired and stole from their employer, Mr Nogie Meggison, the chairman of Jedidiah Air Affairs.
“Kolawole, being the Accounting officer of the company, and David, the House keeper and Security man to the chairman, stole the N1.9million from the company’s account,’’ he said.
Donny said that the fraud was discovered after auditing the company’s account following the directive of Meggison who noticed that something was wrong with the accounting records.
“It was discovered that the fraudulent act was done within four months”.
“They stole the money in bits at different times. Kolawole usually transferred the money into David’s account under the guise of using it to maintain the office,’’ he said.
Donny said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Our correspondent reports that Section 285 prescribes a three -year jail term as penalty for offenders.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr J.A. Adegun granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to September 9 for mention.
