Traders Pledge Support For Wike’s Govt

Azikiwe streets market, have pledged their unalloyed support and cooperation to the present administration under Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, applauding him for rehabilitating the streets under the operation zero pothole programme.
Speaking in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt recently, the Secretary of the market’s union, Engr. Arinze Akupue said the Ojoto/Azikiwe market traders were grateful and appreciative of the excellent job executed by the company on the directive of the governor.
“What the government has done is a good venture. The Ojoto/Azikiwe streets junction has been impassable for many years and Wike within his 100 days in office rehabilitated it, we are grateful and appreciative of his fulfillment of his campaign promises”, Akupue said.
The traders recounted their ordeals when the roads were in bad condition, saying that it affected business at the market adversely and appealed to the state chief executive to come to their aid by giving the market a facelift.
According to Akupue who is the Managing Director, Zonak Consult, the market needs infrastructure and some amenities such as new stalls, drainages, water borehole as well as waste bins, to ensure a better sanitary condition of the market in line with the vision of the government.
“As a union in this market, we are begging the state and local governments to help the traders carry out maintenance work. We pay all the necessary levies and fees, so we expect to reap the democratic dividends that the present administration has come with”, Akupue said.
He noted in a bid to keep the market clean, the union works in synergy with the Port Harcourt City Council and the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), pointing out that the market should be seen as an institution of government.
