RSG Resolves UBEC, Community’s Rift

The lingering dispute between the Universal Basic Education School and its host community, Rumuodomanya, has finally been resolved.
In a meeting presided over by the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Kenneth Kobani, a peace deal was brokered and issues emanating from the dispute resolved as the community pledged its continued support and co-operation in having the Universal Basic Education School stay a little on the temporary location.
The Secretary to the State Government, Chief Kenneth Kobani, commended the effort of the community in ensuring that quality education was delivered to the people through their selfless efforts in making available a temporary place for the Universal Basic Education School and pledged government’s commitment in ensuring the relocation of the school to its permanent site on the completion of the building project.
Chief Kenneth Kobani, said government would take all necessary measures to expedite action to have the permanent site completed.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. M. M. West, thanked the secretary to State Government for the step taken to address the challenges facing the Universal Basic Education School in Rumuodomanya community.
He also hailed the peaceful disposition of the community and their understanding in the dispute which occurred between the Universal Basic Education School and the community.
He further, disclosed that the Universal Basic Education School project would be completed as over 53 million naira has been paid to the contractor out of the 112 million naira earmarked for the completion. The Permanent Secretary added that the project would require over 47 million for the delivery of the peoject.
Earlier in his speech, the paramount ruler of Rumuodomanya through his legal adviser, Chief Sampson N. Worlu, said, the community had given the Universal Basic Education enough time to move to  its permanent site, but to co-operate with the Rivers State Government  on the peaceful resolution of the dispute.
