Rivers SWAN Honours Late Kalio With Trophy
The Rivers State branch of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), has resurrected the memory of its late chairman, Henry Kalio with a soccer trophy to be competed for by media houses in the state.
It would be known as Henry Kalio Cup.
It would be recalled that Henry Kalio died in 2004 following severe injury (burns) he suffered from an auto crash whilst travelling to cover a football match.
Rising from an emergency congress meeting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers SWAN said the donation of the trophy is to honour Kalio, who contributed immensely to sports development in the state and Nigeria at large.
Towards organising the maiden edition of the Henry Kalio cup, a five-man committee was set up to come up with modalities on how it would be organised.
The committee headed by Udede Jim-Opiki, has Fisayo Dairo, Femi Ogunkilede, Barivule Akpo and Isaac Mbah as members.
Inaugurating the committee, Rivers SWAN chairman, Honour Sirawoo charged the committee to work assiduously and submit it’s report within one week.
Responding on behalf of the Committee, Mr Jim-Opiki assured of their readiness to organise a befitting Henry Kalio Cup.
