Polytechnic Workers Challenge Sack In Industrial Court
Four Hundred and Thirty and Five staff of Ken Sarowiwa Polytechnic (formerly known as Rivers Polytechic), recently sacked by the Rivers Stae Government, have approached the National Industrial Court (NIC), in Bayelsa State division to challenge their sack.
Amannah Ikeju, Jekey Lekue and Oruwari Sotonye, who are claimants for themselves and the others, urged the court to, among others, declare that their employment by the state government between September 2013 and April 2015, was valid.
They also sought the court to declare that they were bonafide members of staff of the polytechnic, adding that the court should also declare their recent sack by the state government as unlawful.
They also prayed the court to issue an order restraining the Registrar/Rector of the school from appointing new staff to replace the 435 sacked workers.
They also urged the court to give an order mandating the permanent secretary Ministry of Education and the Rector/Registrar of the school to reinstate them.
The Attorney General of Rivers State is the first defendant while the permanent secretary, Ministry of Education and the Rector, Ken Sarowiwa Polytechnic is the second and third defendants respectively.
