Owed Rivers Athletes To Smile Soon – Director

Sports, Rivers State Sports Council, Sir Daobu Harry, has said that the issue of owed salaries to state athletes would soon be a thing of the past.
Sir Harry, who was represented by the Sports Council’s Sports Festival Secretary, Barisi Wifa, said this during the unveiling of a privately built and donated Karate kickboxing doo (gymnasium) for State Athletes at the weekend.
According to him, the problem is now before the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Sports Mr. Michael Nnordi.
“Government is on top of the matter, but you know how it is, it has to go through the strata for proper confirmation and verification before we can now say it is done”, he said.
He however, assured the athletes that the issue of owed salaries would soon be over, and urged them to exercise patience.
Meanwhile, Sir Harry, expressed gratitude and satisfaction at the gesture demonstrated by the donor of the dojo, Chief Marco Purgarioto, saying that, it would indeed be of great help and source of motivation to the state athletes (Karatekas/kickboxers) in the forthcoming 19th subsequent competitions.
He promised that the State Sports Ministry would partner the donor in order to make use of the facilities wisely, and avoid any farm of reckless use of the facilities.
“One thing is to have these things on ground, another thing is to take proper care of it, I mean maintenance, so, we would map out a way to regulate the use of these facilities so that they are not abused”, he said.
Earlier, he urged corporate bodies and other well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture.
