FIFA Presidency: NFF Set Rules For Aspirants
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has laid down rules for the country’s officials who have indicated interest to run for the FIFA presidency next year.
Former Nigeria captain, Segun ‘Mathematical’ Odegbami and former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu have declared their interest to replace outgoing FIFA boss Sepp Blatter.
In a communiqué after an emergency executive committee meeting in Port Harcourt on Monday, the NFF stated that the candidates have to get a letter of endorsement from CAF as well as their respective Football Associations.
The aspirants should also present a letter of support from the National Sports Commission (NSC).
They also have to prove they fulfill all the FIFA presidential elections eligibility provisions.
Meanwhile, NFF has announced plans to appoint a new coach for the country’s women’s team, the Super Falcons, in the next two weeks.
This decision followed the emergency executive committee meeting in Port Harcourt.
The Falcons are under Chris Danjuma on a caretaker basis after Edwin Okon was fired following a disastrous 2015 World Cup outing.
The NFF has been shopping for a foreign coach for the women’s team, but may be held back because of cash crunch.
The Falcons are the reigning African champions but they have again failed to qualify for the Olympics for the second straight time after they crashed out to Equatorial Guinea recently.
