‘Create Template For Land Administration’
The need to regulate and
inject transparency in land administration within Rivers State, has been identified as one effective way to reform the building sector.
Former National Publicity Secretary of Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Mr Emmanuel Mark, made the observation in a chat with The Tide at the weekend in Port Harcourt.
He observed that the current declaration by Governor Nyesom Wike to reform the issuance of Certificate of Occupancy(C of 0) should be backed by action.
“There is already a policy statement on fast-tracking the process of C of O. For me, that is a quantum leap because it will build confidence in the system.”
Mark advised government to create a template on land administration such that before one starts processing one’s document, one does not need to see anybody explaining that the process should be computerised.
Once the process is computerised, he observed that it will reduce corruption and at the same time bring about transparency.
Commenting on the recent warnings by National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA) on impending flood in some parts of the state, the environmentalist stressed the need for for government to raise awareness campaigns on the citizenry.
He called on the people to ensure they clear their drains, while charging local authorities to clear canals within and outside the city.
Meanwhile, Caretaker Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Torukwein Odimabo, has called on the state government to pile the foot of the newly constructed Abonnema/Obonoma bridge from erosion.
