Consumers Oppose IKEDC’s Tariff Review
Power consumers under the aegis of Joint Action Committee, Electricity Distribution Company Customers Consultative Forum, have opposed tariff review proposed by Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC).
The consumers insisted that the electricity company has not done enough to warrant any such review.
At a stakeholders meeting tagged “Public Consultation On Tarriff Review” which was held at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State, the consumers through a protest vote said no to any such move for tariff review.
Chairman of the forum, Apostle Amos Olawoye, said the group’s opposition is that all electricity consumers are not going to pay any tariff increase, remarking that the move has been rejected in totality.
Olawoye said unless the electricity company meets its three demands-removal of fixed charges; stoppage of billing to unmetered customers; and stoppage of crazy billings, all estimated billings from IKEDC would be returned to them.
“Our next step is that we are taking action from this month to return every estimated bills. Those that have not gotten meters, those that have meters, but given estimated billings, and those with non-functional meters, but still receiving estimated billings.
“Meters have not been distributed to customers as promised. At least we still have about 90 per cent of consumers unmetered. We advise them to improve their services and their system of revenue collection. They only base on their targets without any concern for the plight of consumers,” said the forum chairman.
