Wike, who gave the charge when he paid an unscheduled inspection visit to the Rumuokurusi-Igwuruta-Eneka road under construction by Lubrik Construction Company (LCC), urged the crowd of onlookers to create conducive atmosphere for the contractors to do their job and deliver same on target.
In his words: “I made you people a promise during my electioneering campaign period that I will not disappoint you if you give me your mandate, and this you have done. Therefore, I am here to fulfill my part by ascertaining the level of job done on this road project because I have already paid the contractor”, Wike disclosed.
The governor enjoined the people to support the contractor to complete the road construction project on time for the road to be in use again.
Wike had earlier inspected the Industry Road in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has urged Christian women to revive the values of Christendom as laid down by Jesus Christ.
Banigo stated this during the 2015, International Conference of the Wailing Women Worldwide held at Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Region 5 Camp, Omuchi Igwuruta by Aluu Junction in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The deputy governor, who was represented by her Personal Assistant, Mrs. Magdalene Tony-Eluku, said women must be encouraged to live up to their responsibilities as mothers, home builders and peace makers in their communities.
According to her, ”despite the cultural and traditional challenges, the African woman represent an enigma of strength and beauty, combining domestic, economic, spiritual and social responsibilities to keep society stable.
Banigo reminded women that they owe the society a duty to bring up God fearing children and to ensure that they imbibe the virtues of hard work, moral rectitude and peaceful co-existence to bring about development in society.
She lamented the current trend in arms conflict, Islamic extremism, cultism, kidnapping and other social vices that have bedeviled the society in recent times, and charged the women to seek God’s intervention to change the situation for the better.
The deputy governor called on the organizers of the conference to use their global network platform for grassroots mobilization and support government effort in tackling unwholesome practices against women and child labour.
She described the theme of the conference “without faith it is impossible to please God” as inspiring because governments at all levels are ordained by God and it behooves on believers to have faith in God by praying earnestly for the leaders to succeed.
Banigo assured them that the Rivers State Government is committed to partnering with religious organizations in the task of building a virile society that would give every citizen equal opportunity to attain their full potential.
Earlier, the Christian Association of Nigerian President, Rivers State Chapter, Apostle Zilly Aggrey regretted the decision of American President, Barack Obama in promoting gay marriage which is alien to African tradition and Christian values, and called on the women to pray against it.
