Why We Didn’t Scrap Pilgrims Boards – Wike
The visit of prominent Christain leaders to Governor
Nyesom Wike dominated most part of last week in Governor House.
The governor had last Sunday attended a special crusade by the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Ministry at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium.
On Monday, General Overseer of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Ministry, Rev Lazarus Muoka paid a courtesy call on Governor Nyesom Wike in Government House and prayed for the state and the governor. On his part, Governor Wike expresses appreciation to the man of God for choosing the state in hosting their event. He expressed hope that the prayers offered will usher-in peace and progress.
Shortly after Rev. Mouka left, Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr Samuel Kanu Uche, visited the governor and expressed happiness over the course of the Wike led administration few months after assuming office.
The Methodist Church prelate counseled Governor Wike to support the federal government in its fight against terrorism and also to exploit the tourism potential of the state.
On Tuesday, Archbishop, Niger Delta Province. Most Rev. Ignatius Kattey paid a courtesy call on the governor and advised him not to be distracted by the opposition, but to continue in his good works.
On his part, Governor Wike assured the Anglican cleric that his admisnitration would complete all ongoing projects, reminding him that his success is anchored on God and nothing else.
Governor Wike was away on Wednesday. He was, however, represented by the deputy governor, Dr Ipalibo Harry-Banigo at the 2015 Annual General Meeting and scientific conference of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Rivers State Branch.
While decrying the poor attitude of the citizenry in disposing their waste into drains, the governor warned that such act is capable of worsening flooding problems, erosion and breeding of vectors that can transmit diseases.
The governor, therefore, called on the populace to change their attitude, as he pledged support for capacity development of medical practitioners to facilitate effective delivery of health care to the populace.
Governor Wike returned to the state on Thursday and immediately inaugurated the new Christian Pilgrims Board. He explained that the state government decided not to scrap the board since it will enhance the spiritual growth of the people.
He also inaugurated the Muslim Pilgrims Board and charged them not to discriminate, assuring them that his administration will do everything possible to ensure they embark on September / October pilgrimage to Mecca.
The President of the Nigerian Instituting of Estate surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Olorogum James Omero together with the state branch of the body visited Governor Wike on Friday and decorated him as the patron of the body in Rivers State, Governor Wike used the visit to pledge support to estate valuers.
Shortly after the visit on Friday, the governor was at Elelenwo to flag-off the expansion of the Rumukarusi, Elelenwo/Akpajo Road. The 5.65 kilometre road is being handled by Julius Berger. He later inspected the new Rainbow Town at Trans-Amadi area.
The governor on Saturday attended the wedding of daughter of Archbiship Ignatius Kattey, Josephine and her heartthrob, Ebereonwu Nwagbo at Eleme. After the church service, he embarked on projects inspection and later wrapped-up the day with a family meeting with PDP stakehdolers in the state at Government House.
