RSHA Backs RIWAMA On Cleanliness Of PH
The Rivers State House of
Assembly has pledged to give all necessary supports to the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) to enable it return Port Harcourt to its garden city status.
The Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Marshall Stanley Uwom who said this, during this month’s environmental sanitation exercise last weekend in Port Harcourt, also said that the Agency deserved commendation for returning Port Harcourt to its garden city status within the last two months.
He said that, the decisions to join the Agency in monitoring the exercise was to show solidarity with the Sole Administrator, Chief Felix Obuah, for the good work he is doing in the state.
Also speaking the member representing Ogu/Bolo Constituency in the Assembly, Hon. Evans Bipi also expressed satisfaction with the large turn out for the exercise and attributed it to the increasing awareness on the importance of cleanliness among residents of the state.
Meanwhile, the Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Chief Felix Obuah, has warned against further dumping of refuse in gutters and drainages.
Speaking to newsmen during the sanitation exercise Chief Obuah said that, the Agency would also review the contract of any refuse contractor who failed to perform adding that the Agency is sparing no effort to ensure that Port Harcourt retains its status as the garden city of Nigeria.
He commended the Rivers State Governor Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for setting up a flood rehabilitation committee in the state and commended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for participating in the exercise.
The Chief of Staff Government House, Chief Engr. Emeka Woke, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Environment, Dr. Godwin Mpi, and the State Director of the National Orientation, Mr Oliver Wollugbom, also participated in the exercise.
