RSG’s Probe: Police Beef Up Security At State Judiciary

complex witnessed a heavy presence of armed policemen within and around the complex on Monday following the commencement of the state judicial commission of inquiry set up by Governor Nyesom Wike to investigate the activities of the past administration in the state under former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
The commission led by Justice George Omereji started its work on Monday following a ruling by a Port Harcourt High Court presided over by Justice S. Amadi.
Justice Amadi had in his ruling last week on a suit brought before the court by former Governor Chibuike Rotimi challenging the jurisdiction of the commission to probe him adding that such inquest infringes on his personal rights.
The judge however, in his ruling dismissed the suit by the former governor challenging the legality of the commission, saying that the commissions was not to look into Amaechi’s private life but the activities of the government under his administration.
Following the judgment, the commission swung into action by holding its inaugural sitting on Monday.
Our correspondent reports, that heavy mobile policemen from Mopol 19 were noticed within and outside the judiciary complex including the designated ceremonial court hall for the commission.
Our correspondent further reports that security checks were carried out at the main entrance of the complex as well as the entrance leading to the commission’s sitting hall.
The Tide learnt that the development was aimed at averting any possible breakdown of security as well as law and order in the area.
