Robbers Kill Two Policemen, Others In Rivers

A four member armed robbery gang Monday shot and killed two Mobile Policemen and two others in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The incident which occurred at about 2pm afternoon along Location Ada-George Road axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government area of the state also let scores injured among the two other victims included a female and a man whose identity could not be identified by Our Correspondent before filing the report.
An eye witness account has it that, the Policemen and others killed by the gang were said to have been conveying money from an undisclosed petrol station within the area to a bank when the incident occurred.
According to the source, unknown to the Policemen, the armed robbers had laid siege along their way and opened fire as their vehicle approached their vicinity adding that all the occupants in the vehicle died on a spot. The source further said that the Policemen and the other occupants were escorting the money to a nearby bank with a Camry car when they were taken by surprise by the robbers and killed all on a spot.
The Tide learnt that the Robbers operated for over thirty minutes brandishing their Ak-47 rifles and succeeded in carting away the money without any challenge by other security operatives in the area.
Our Correspondent who visited the scene of the crime said the incident caused pandemonium as the ever busy Location Ada-George road was deserted by people for hours adding that the motorists and other road users ran for safety.
When contacted on phone, the State Police Public relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ahmed Mohammed said no arrest had been made adding that efforts were on to ensure that the criminals were arrested and brought to justice.
