Rivers Angels Falter Again, Lose To Amazons

Barely one week after
losing their unbeaten record in the Nigeria Women Premier Leaug, NWPL, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt, at the weekend lost all points at stake to Nasarawa Amazons in Lafia.
A brace from Igboamalu Chinyere was all it took for Nasarawa Amazons to beat Rivers Angels 2-0 in a rescheduled week 11 game at the Lafia City stadium at the weekend.
The home team went up in the 10th minute when Igboamalu headed in a corner kick cross from Emenayo Ugochi.
Angels forward, Ijeoma Obi came close to getting an equalizer before half time but was denied by the cross bar.
In the 46th minute, Cecilia Nku made an attempt to get into the score sheet but her shot went straight into the arms of goalkeeper Sangonuga Ibijoke.
Then in the 54th minute, Eybhoria Winifred took advantage of a back pass from Ijeoma Obi to connect to Igboamalu who curled in her second goal for the day.
Head coach of Nasarawa Amazons, Oluwaseyi Michael in his post-match speech said his game plan worked out for the team.
“Well it’s a very interesting game, it’s on evenly match game, but we thank God, God saw us through; we said we should attack from the blast of the whistle and that was what we did and it favored us, we got our first goal in the first ten minute of the first half and the first ten minute of the second half too so is our game plan, we intend to attack them from the blast of the whistle and it worked out for us” said Oluwaseyi.
On his part, head coach of Rivers Angels Edwin Okon said his team lost to the match officials
“Am crying every day that there should be improvement on the side of the officiating not because I lost no, it is not because of that, we lost today to Nasarawa because like I said in our last match, even before our last match, if we lose to a team that played well and were better, we won’t complain. No matter what happens in football, at the end of the day, who had the goals is always the winner”, cried Okon.
Rivers Angels will next play Sunshine Queens of Akure on Wednesday in Port Harcourt.
