Post-UMTE: Drivers, Traders Make Brisk Business
As the University of Ni
geria, Nsukka, post-UMTE examination enters its second week, drivers and petty traders have continued to make brisk business within the university campus.
Some of the traders told newsmen in Nsukka that they wished the post UMTE examination should not come to an end.
One of the shuttle bus drivers plying the campus route, Mr Jude Eze, said that since August 11 when the examination started, his sales had doubled and his profit had also increased.
“Since Tuesday last week when the examination started, I have been smiling home whenever I close from work.
“There is no dull moment as passengers who are mostly candidates, struggle to board my bus.
“At times some big boys and girls as well as those who come with their parents or guardians will pay for drop; if it is possible this screening should continue forever,” Eze said.
Miss Ngozi Onah, who sells snacks and soft drinks, said she enjoyed improved sales as several candidates eat snacks and take soft drink while waiting for the examinations.
“Some of the candidates like to eat before entering the examination hall or when they come out.
“I must say the truth, I have been making quick sales and that has resulted in more profit for me,” she said.
Magnus Izunna, who sells sachet water, said that since the screening started, she had been selling about 11bags of sachet water each day which was not the case before now.
She said she hardly sell four bags a day at her usual base at the Nsukka Old Park.
“I am happy because the screening has increased my sale. At times some people will allow me keep their change because of the way I attend to them,” she said.
Our correspondent gathered that the UNN post-UTME examination which started on August 11 would end on today.
