Post-UME:High Applicants’ Number Affects RSUST’s Website

The high number of stu
dents intending to pursue there degree course in the state owned University of Science and Technology (RSUST) has been blamed for the slow speed of its website.
Some internet operators at the campus who spoke with The Tide Wednesday, said the number of intending students was almost double that of last session.
They said the influx of students has slowed down the school’s site as several persons are using it at the same time.
An intending student, who gave his name as Bobby Amadi, said it took him up to two days to complete his e-registration due to slow speed.
He noted that the system was faster before the commencement of the Post-UME screening test, for the 2015/2016 academic session.
Amadi reasoned that if the process was as fast as before, the exercise would end earlier.
The Tide learnt that over 10,000 students have so far applied to study in the institution 6,000 of whom are targeting the law facility.
It was further learnt that law faculty also had highest number of applicants last academic session while engineering and Management followed closely.
Some of the operators at the campus also revealed that the site functions better around midnight when few persons are believed to be using it.
Meanwhile, operators at the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centre said plans are under way to introduce more soft wares that would be capable of carrying more actions simultaneously.
According to the source, some drastic measures would be urgently considered so as to properly address the issue before the next academic session.
It however, hinted that the number of intending students may be close to 20,000 before the closing date.
