A chieftain of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Mr. Martin Amabipi, has urged the probe panel investigating the sales of state assets to also probe the 2014/2015 budgets passed by former governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in the state.
Mr. Amabipi, who made the call last Friday in Port Harcourt, said over 80 percents of the budgets during the last administration were not implemented.
According to him, over N70 billion was appropriated for the Ministry of Water Resources in 2014, with nothing to show for it in the state.
The PDP chieftain further called on the investigation panel to probe water loan collected by the Amaechi administration, saying the loan, which was collected towards the end of the administration was not recorded anywhere as part of the money used for provision of water in the state.
Mr. Amabipi called on the state government to recover all the monies that were spent injudiciously by the last administration.
However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state has risen in defence of former governor Amaechi, describing allegations of financial recklessness against the former governor as cheap black-mail calculated to deny Amaechi a ministerial position in President Mohammadu Buhari’s government.
APC’s spokesman in the state, Chris Finebone said no amount of blackmail would stop Amaechi from making his rightful position in the Federal government.
