Okorocha of Imo State has urged Christian leaders in the country to support the anti-corruption stance of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Okorocha made the call when the national leadership of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), led by its National President, Rev. Felix Omobude, visited him in Owerri.
He said leaders of religious groups like PFN should play a leading role in the fight against corruption in the country hence the need to back the president.
“The whole world, particularly America, seems to be focusing on Nigeria. I was very much encouraged with the visit of our president to America.
“I feel like singing the Nigeria National Anthem there because I saw the honour and respect given to President Buhari.
“This is the time to call on Christians to support him in prayers and see him as part and parcel of us especially in the fight against corruption”, he said.
According to the governor, the nation is passing through difficult moments occasioned by bad management of the country’s resources, adding that Christians have a bigger role to play.
He said it was not enough to pray to get a government in power, but prayer should also be made to sustain it and ensure the nation enjoyed good leadership.
Okorocha called on the PFN leaders to build a Pentecostal university of Nigeria in the state.
He promised to give them land and N100 million to start off when they are ready to embark on the project adding that his love for education does not have any limit.
He thanked the leadership of PFN for supporting him during the 2015 election and assured that he would live up to his election promises and partner with them.
Earlier, Omobude said the organization would work closely with the government at all levels for the good of the nation.
He advised the Federal Government to begin to address some of the excesses that have held the country down.
He said Nigeria could only become a strong nation expected of her by building strong families and bridges of unity with strong values.
Omobode said PFN would continue to pray for the good of the nation and her leadership.
He said he had followed Okorocha’s track record before he became governor and appreciated his philanthropic gestures and urged him to continue the good works.
