Malaria Reporters Get Excellence Award
The health reporters fo
cusing on Malaria last Thursday won excellence award for their reportage in malaria related issues.
They are the Health Editor, New Telegraph, Mrs Appolonia Adeyami (print category), Ms Linda Nengi Fyne country of Africa Independent Television (AIT) Rivers (Television category); and a Health Reporter from Eko fun/Radio Lagos (Radio category).
Also included in the award was the runner-up in the print category, Haruna Godwin of This Day Newspaper.
All the winners go one hundred thousand naira (N100,000) each at an award ceremony held in Lagos for the purpose, with the runner-up in the print category getting fifty (N50,000).
Presenting the certificates were Mr Albert Mabuyaku of Total Nigeria Plc, Dr Mike Okolo of Pan Atlantic university, Mrs Omowumi George of Lagos State Ministry of Health and Mrs Charity Binka of AMMREN, Ghana.
In their different remarks, they noted that Malaria No More (MNM), an international organisation geared with the responsibility of checking the trend of malaria in Nigeria in collaboration with exxonmobil, had trained journalists across three states in Nigeria, Akwa Ibom, Lagos and Rivers, to achieve wide spread reports from different parts of the country.
Expressing delight over the performance of the awardees, Dr Mike Okolo charged the awardees not to relent in their reportage but carryout investigative reports on malaria to make a change in the society.
On her part, the country Director, Malaria No More Nigeria, Mrs Dayo Oluwole in her remarks discussed a road map for the engagement of journalists in 2016, which will be hinged on capacity building, raising the profile of malaria and resource mobilization.
She further stated that MNM partnered with 35 journalists across print, radio and Television who by their reports proved to be passionate about health issues in Nigeria in order to drive the publishing of attests one quarterly rebust news feature on malaria between 2014 and 2015.
