IGSDA Receives, Honours Victorious U-19 Team

Sports Development Association IGSDA earlier in the week organised an official reception for its Under – 19 Football team, Rivers United winners of the football event of the maiden edition of the United Nations Day of Friendship held in Accra, Ghana last week.
The Rivers United had outscored their counterparts from Ghana on penalty shoot out after regulation time ended goalless to emerge winners.
The competition witnessed the participation of four West African countries Ghana, Nigeria, Togo and Benin republic, who contested for honours.
According to the National President of the IGSDA, Prince Miebi Ogunu, who made this known during the official reception of the U-19 team, said the united nations was established to serve as an instrument for global peace and it sets a day aside for the celebration of friendship aimed at promoting fellowship among all human beings regardless of race, colour, religion and other factors.
The IGSDA was officially invited to participate in this inaugural edition of the Day of friendship football tournament initiative in recognition of its commitment to talent discovery at the grassroots level.
Ogunu congratulated parents of players who have been supportive as partners and solicited their continued support, assuring that, the IGSDA, is committed to grooming their wards and linking them to suitable clubs through effective programmes, training tours, friendliness and participation in competitions.
He added that their investment would not be in vain.
Stressing that the  team’s victory would be the first glory for Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari and Rivers State under Governor, Nyesom Wike.
He further acknowledged the support of members of IGSDA’s board of Trustees and State technical Co-ordinator, and the Rivers State South-East technical Co-ordinator for their moral, and financial investment in moulding the team and in addition to the support of the Rivers State Sports Writers Association (SWAN).
