Following the absence
of the 2015 edition of the yearly ICT farm, students residing in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, have called for probe as to why the annual ICT lesson could not hold.
The Tide learnt that the ICT farm was an annual ICT holiday lesson organised by the past administration to train all primary and secondary school students resident in the state.
An SS One student from County Grammer School Ikwerre/Etche, Kudo Oji, said the absence of the ICT summer training this year was not the best thing to happen to the students in this digital era.
He said the impact has left a visible negative impression on some students who hurriedly came to spend their holiday in Port Harcourt because of the ICT farm.
Oji recalled that the month-long programme, has so far, placed Port Harcourt-based students above others due to the quality of knowledge acquired.
He called on the present administration to probe into the programme and ensure its rebirth by next summer holiday.
According to him, the best way for governance was to have a formidable ICT students, hence the need to train students who would take over from the present generation.
The Tide further learnt that the ICT summer lesson could not hold last year due to what the then handlers described as challenges in logistics.
Another student, Joy Chima said the ICT holiday class ought to continue in order to keep the students alive in the area of ICT development.
She explained that since ICT has become the hub of every economy, the best option was to make its training available for all.
Chima also urged Gov. Nyesom Wike to establish more ICT centres in the state equivalent to the one donated by Zenith Bank on PH-Aba Expressway as to accommodate more students during the training period.
