Go Round FC Leads League Group Table
Go Round FC moved to
the top of their Nigeria National League group at the weekend, Friday, night as they thrashed hapless Ekiti United 3-0.
The game was played on a waterlogged pitched at the Kris Dera Hotel Stadium, nicknamed the lion’s den and it took the home side just 19 minutes to open scores.
Onyedikachi Ugwu got the first of the game and his first of the season when the Ekiti United goalkeeper failed to hold on to the ball.
He carefully stole the ball away and blasted into an empty net.
In the 27th minute, Nyime Nwangwa made it 2-0, his first of the season as he jumped highest to head home a thrown in taken by Chile Azu.
With 7 minutes left to play in the game, Onyedikachi Ugwu completed a well crafted move jabbing home from just outside the six yard box when a pass came in from the right.
After the game, coach of Ekiti United, Samuel Oniponle blamed the pitch for the loss.
“The pitch was bad because of the rain. We didn’t want to play but the match commissioner urged us to. I have nothing against the goals scored against us, but the pitch was bad,” Onipponle said.
His opposite number, Ngozi Elechi, said his players knew the challenge ahead of them knowing they were now in touching distance of the sole promotion ticked in the group.
“I’m glad we have achieved our aim. The players know they can now gain promotion to the Premier League if they keep this up. I think we deserved this win,” Elechi said.
Goalscorer, Nyime Nwangwa described the win as one that was borne out of hardwork.
