Ex-NUC Boss Hails RSUST’s ICT Initiative

The former Executive Secre
tary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Prof Peter Okebukola, has lauded the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) over its appreciative growth in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
He made the remarks during a visit to the institution, recently.
Okebukola, said the management of the school, had so far, used ICT to transform the institution to a world class citadel of learning.
According to him, he mistook the Rivers State-owned university to some universities in North America due to its visible high technology.
The ex-NUC boss pointed out that such feat would not have been possible without the availability of ICT.
“The road network of the university is well paved but the most distinguishing feature of the university is the use of ICT in almost all of its processes”, he said.
He also called on the state government to increase funding for the university to enable it break more grounds.
He noted that projects like special science schools would enhance science education in the country.
Still on science and technology promotion, he pleaded with private investors to redirect their attention to Nigerian universities so as to promote scieence and technology development.
Okebukola, blamed the poor technological development in the country on poor funding, suggesting that if the private sector can wade in and invest in universities, the country would  transform for the better.
The Tide, learnt that  RSUSTs’ acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Blessing C. Didia, has assured to enhance the ICT outfit of the institution in order to enable it over take perceived rivals in ICT development.
The Tide also gathered that the RSUST VC wants to achieve the governor’s vision for the school through the use of ICT technology.
