The Ebonyi State Emer

The Chairman of SEMA, Ephraim Ononye, who announced this to newsmen in Abakaliki, commended National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for the gesture.
Ononye said that the items would be of immense benefit to the recipients.
According to him, the distribution of the items will form part of the activities to mark this year’s World Humanitarian Day.
He said that the state government was also preparing its contribution toward supporting the victims.
The chairman listed items to be distributed to include foams, blankets, insecticide nets, wrappers bags of rice and gari, sugar, palm oil and ground nut oil, among others.
He said the agency had adopted measures to avert future occurrence of such disasters, and had also reached out to hospitals in the three senatorial zones preparatory to any emergency.
According to him, the agency will sensitise the people on how to avoid flood and fire disasters.
“We shall emphasise the need for people to ensure that their electrical appliances, especially gas cookers, stoves are turned off to avoid any incident.
“We shall also enlighten people on the need to avoid building and farming along waterways,” he said.
Some victims of the disasters, Mrs Patricia Nwaode and Mr Uchenna Nworie, commended the agency on its kind gesture.
On behalf of flood victims at Azugwu, Mr Donatus Mbam, commended the agency, and appealed to the state government to build a canal for easy passage of water in the area.
“We plead tor government to help us build a canal that will channel water properly because as it is now, disasters can still occur,” Mbam said.
