Court Remands Two Youth Leaders

Magistrate Court has remanded two Rumuwoji youth leaders in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State in prison custody for allegedly destroying properties worth N500,000 belonging to Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), as well as documents belonging to Chief Sampson Ajede valued at N300,000 at Kidney Island in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The accused persons remanded in prison custody are Kinglsey Wobo (39) and Miracle Amadi and are standing trials before Senior Magistrate B Vic Jumbo with charge sheet No PMC/805C/2015.
The accused persons were said to have committed an offence punishable under section 451 of the criminal code cap 37 volume 11 laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.
They and others now at large had on the said date at SPDC compound, when they were holding a meeting at Kidney Island in Port Harcourt Magisterial District, did conspire amongst themselves to commit misdemeanor, to malicious damage, an offence punishable under section 517A of the criminal code cap 37 volume 11 laws of Rivers State Nigeria 1999, the prosecution alleged.
It also alleged that the accused persons and others now at large had on the same date and place in the afore said magisterial district, did steal N150,000 belonging to Chief Sampson Asede, an offence punishable under section 390 (b) of the criminal code cap 37 volume 11 laws of Rivers State Nigeria 1999.
The prosecution also stated that the accused persons and others now at large, did conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of the public peace by obstructing the Rumuwoji contractors meeting of SPDC, Kidney Island in Port Harcourt, an offence punishable under section 249(0) of the criminal code cap 37 volume 11 laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.
The accused persons were arraigned on Friday August 21, 2015. They are standing criminal trial on a four count charge for alleged malicious damage and stealing in charge with number PMC/805C/2015.
The prosecutor, Inspector Zachaous announced his appearance in the matter.
The counsel for the accused persons also applied for their bail, arguing that the alleged offence which his clients is standing trial, was a bailable one and urged the court to exercise its discretion in favour of the accused.
In her ruling, senior Magistrate, B Vic-Jumbo disclosed that the court had carefully examined the nature of the alleged offence and had decided to grant bail to the accused persons in the sum of N300,000 each with one surety in like sum.
The court also directed that the surety should deposit two passport size photographs, swear to affidavit of means and be resident within the Port Harcourt jurisdiction and his address must be verified by the prosecutor.
