Country Director Seeks Reintroduction Of Music In Schools

The Country Director of
the Centre for Development and Support Initiative (CEDSI), Dr (Mrs) Mina Ogbanga has called for the reintroduction of music in school.
Dr Ogbanga, who said this in an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt said that the high rate of unemployment in the country could be reduced of the youths are encouraged to go into music.
She said that Rivers State and the rest of Nigeria abound with great musical talents, stressing that what was needed was the creation of a conducive environment for its development.
Dr Ogbanga said that it was as a result of this that the Greenwood Music Institute and studio as part of its fifth anniversary was organizing a summer  class for budding musicians in Port Harcourt.
She said that the class would feature instrumental mixing /mastering musical video editing, D.S Mix tape D.J service, voicing and jingles.
The CEDSI director said that the programme was to engage the youths with the view to harnessing  their musical talent for the development of the society.
“Most of the youths are talented . We need to assist young people to improve their capacity for societal development”
While stressing that over 99 percent of Nigerians love and cherished good music. Mrs Ogbanga also stressed the need for more attention to the arts, adding that music promotes peace and the rich cultural heritage of the society.
In her words, “a lot of young people always look up to their video. We need to encourage their training on the arts as well as encourage civics education in the schools,” she said.
