Club Plans Water, Sanitation Facilities For Schools, Markets
The Rotary Club of Port
Harcourt Central, District 9140, has pledged to give more attention to the provision of water and sanitation facilities in some schools and markets in Port Harcourt.
The club’s President, Rotarian Paul Ben – Cookey, disclosed this during his installation recently in Port Harcourt. Rotarian Ben-Cookey said that apart from the provision of water and sanitation in schools and market places, the club also planned an awareness seminar on personal hygiene for the physically handicapped in the city.
He said that the situation was part of the club’s programme to promote the culture of clean environment in market places and among school children in the state.
The rotary president also listed other programmes to include promotion of health awareness campaign across the state, donation of medical equipments to local hospitals and support for NIDS polio eradication.
He also said that the club will promote literacy programme through the donation of text books to schools, promotion of computer literacy programme, donation of customised note books and career talks in schools.
Rotarian Ben-Cookey also said that the club will encourage talks on community peace and conflict resolution in partnership with the Nigerian police while micro credit facility will be given to selected petty traders. He commended members for reposing their confidence in him, promising not to disappoint them. The rotary president also urged for corporate support and to enable him succeed.
