Banigo Tasks Women On Fight Against Harmful Practices
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has charged women organisations in the state to fight against female genital mutilation and widowhood practices that debase womanhood.
Dr. Banigo gave the charge, yesterday, when members of the “ I See You Foundation for Peace and Prosperity “ led by Mrs. Senapuba Ariweriokuma, paid her a courtesy call in Government House, Port Harcourt.
The Deputy Governor noted that the Governor Wike-led administration is gender sensitive and would ensure that women are encouraged to take up more leadership positions in the state.
“As we can see, the appointment of women in this administration is more than three percent in the current Local Government Caretaker Committees. The Governor, also appointed significant number of women as Permanent Secretaries in the state recently,” she remarked.
Dr. Banigo’ enjoined the women to champion activities that will promote peaceful co-existence and discourage their children from getting involved in negative vices that could tarnish their image.
“I believe as women mobilisers and people that stand for peace, we should speak for gender equality, empowerment and continue to make our women relevant in the scheme of things.”
Banigo stated.
She reiterated Government preparedness to support the Girl Child Education, through the provision of standard Education.
The Deputy Governor, said the State Government is determined to provide conducive environment for investors in the State to do their businesses, noting that the current effort of Governor Wike’s partnership with Security Agency is yielding positive result in the State.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mrs. Senapuba Ariweriokuma congratulated Governor Wike on his resounding victory at the April 11,2015 polls and thanked him for giving women strategic positions in his administration.
Mrs. Senapuba Ariweriokuma said the NGO has a network of over 180,000 members stressing that the foundation stands on the tripod of peace, Wealth creation and godliness.
Mrs. Senapuba Ariweriokuma later presented a plaque on behalf of National leader of “I see you Foundation” Hon. Chizi Nyeomasila to the Deputy Governor in recognition of her meritorious service to the state and nation.
