150 Students For Volleyball Clinic In Kaduna

ondary school students participated in the maiden north west Volleyball holiday clinic  which held in Kaduna over the weekend.
Tidesports gathered that the clinic was organised by the National Sports Commission for 22 secondary schools from five states.
Chairman, Nigeria Volleyball Coaches Association Ali Danlami, told newsmen in Kaduna that the clinic would expose the students aged between 10 and 15 to the rudiments of the game.
“We want to groom the students and promote volleyball at the grassroots. I am happy with the organisers of this clinic because it has been a long-awaited programme that will help the grooming of young talents.
“School sports are no longer popular. The only way to strengthen grassroots sports is by organising this kind of clinic so that the untapped talents can be discovered’’.
Danlami said the students would be exposed to modern practical and theoretical techniques of the game.
“We are starting with the technique of under arm, and the pass, which is the most important aspect in the game; this is because without the pass you cannot exhibit meaningful attack in the game.
“We intend to expose them to the techniques of the game, then at the closing ceremony we will bring in two good teams that will play exhibition match for them to see.
“We have grouped participants according to their ages and we are going to train the good ones and camp them for future competitions.”
He said that talents discovered during the clinic would be motivated through regular competitions.
“Players who will be identified in the course of the clinic will be competition ready. Even if they will not play for Kaduna State, we will secure clubs for them to play and exhibit their skills.”
