Workers Strike Threatens Heartland’s Home Return

Heartland may be forced
to call off plans to return to their home ground of Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri because of an industrial action by civil servants in Imo State.
Heartland has been playing their home games at the Rojenny Stadium in Oba, near Onitsha, after the Dan Anyiam Stadium was declared unsuitable by the League Management Company (LMC).
Heartland media officer, Cajetan Nkwopara, bemoaned the fate that might befall the club should the strike action be sustained for a long time as workers at the stadium have promised to lock all entries to the stadium.
“It is disheartening to come up against this obstacle as most of the upgrading demanded by the league management has almost been completed, but with this strike, I am afraid we might have to play some of our home matches outside Owerri,” said the team spokesman.
“We are praying for a quick resolution of the matters that led to the industrial action by Imo civil servants.”
He further said, “We have commenced training in preparation for the second stanza with all our players intact and rearing to challenge for a top-three finish in the league.
“It will be tough but we are not known to run away from challenges.”
