Strive For Excellence, RSG Challenges Women …‘Rivers Communities To Enjoy New Empowerment Programmes’
The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has enjoined women in the state to always strive for excellence in all their endeavours.
Banigo, gave this advice Friday when the winner of Ms. United Nations, Nigeria, Miss Tubosoye Charles Dokubo, paid her a courtesy visit in Government House, Port Harcourt.
The deputy governor pointed out that the present administration would provide avenues for all children, especially the girl-child, to be educated in order to fulfill her destiny.
According to her, “We want to encourage all our children particularly the girl child to be in school and tap their full potentials, as the state government has laid solid foundation for sustainable and proactive development”.
“Our girls now have the opportunity to be all that God has created them to be, to fulfill their destiny because there is much they can offer as women in our homes, work places and communities”, she stated.
Banigo also said the government would ensure that women are protected, and that pregnant mothers enjoy full ante-natal care throughout the period of their pregnancy.
She expressed happiness that Miss Dokubo would be representing the country in the Ms World United Nations Beauty Contest, holding in Kingston, Jamaica, and wished her success in her quest to win the world crown.
The deputy governor, who commended the Beauty Queen, on her choice of a pet project, “Project 360, Making Global Impact on Girl-Child and Youth Development”, which she noted, would give the girl child an opportunity to fulfil her dreams.
Earlier, Ms. United Nations Nigeria, Miss. Tubosoye Charles Dokubo, had congratulated Banigo on her victory at the polls, which made her the first female deputy governor of the state.
Dokubo, who described the deputy governor as her role model, said her pet project tagged was aimed at encouraging young girls to explore their potentials and to rehabilitate the minds of women in Rivers State, Nigeria and the world.
“It is time for women to be rebranded, rehabilitated and to know that we have even larger potentials than we think we do. We can take care of the home and the society”, she said.
The Nigerian beauty ambassador described the deputy governor as a worthy example for all women to emulate, and promised to leave a legacy for women of Rivers State and Nigeria at large.
Dokubo, who hails from Elem-Sangama in Asari-Toru LGA, Rivers State, was crowned in May, 2015, and is billed to represent Nigeria in Ms. World United Nations Beauty Competition in Jamaica, this month.
Speaking, the Manager of Ms United Nations, Nigeria, Hon. Kingston Sylvanus, said Rivers State is not only known for oil and gas production but also for producing beauty queens as the first ever Miss World from Nigeria, Agbani Derego hails from the state.
