Speed Limiter: FRSC Insists On Sept Deadline

transport business have been enjoined to ensure that they install the speed limit device in their vehicles before the September, 2015 deadline as agreed.
The sector Head, Transport Standardisation Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers State sector command, Mr Arinze Okafor, made the call in a chat with The Tide correspondent in his office, in Port Harcourt, recently.
Okafor said the advantages in the speed limiter device for fleet operators and other vehicles cannot be over –emphasised, as the issue of safety on the road is a collective responsibility, stressing that all should work towards reducing road crashes to the barest minimum at all time.
He noted that fleet operators and other commercial operators stand to gain a lot, as it would save the company a lot of financial implications and loss of reputation by commuters, as well as litigation, among others.
The FRSC officer said operators should not wait until the last minute, because fire brigade approach is not the best, pointing out that the command would take appropriate steps in arresting and prosecuting offenders at the expiration of the deadline.
Okafor also advised them to carry the information to others in the business as ignorance of the law would not be an excuse, stressing that it is for their safety on the road.
Earlier, the Regional Sales manager of Sattrack Telematics, Port Harcourt, Mfon Ekpenyong, reiterated that speed limiters are an effective means of enhancing road safety and value addition for fleets operators, and urged all stakeholders to avail themselves of the opportunity and install the device, which she said could be obtained from their office at 7 Oromineke Street, D/ Line, Port Harcourt at moderate prizes.
