RVHA To Review  Laws On Mission Schools, Others

The Rivers State House of
Assembly has promised to revisit all laws made in the past which are not in the interest of the people and the state.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Owaji-Ibani gave the assurance when he played host to delegation from the Diocese of Evo, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, led by its Bishop Rt. Rev Innocent Uchechukwu Ordu.
The speaker who promised to restore the confidence of Rivers people in the legislature of the state said the laws concerning the handover of the schools in the state would be revisited to enhance justice in the educational pursuit of the state.
He promised to support the church in its activities even as he acknowledged the synod of the church of Nigeria as the legislative arm of the religious body.
Ibani commended the leadership of the Diocese for deeming it fit and necessary to pay him a visit, describing the gesture as one that will enable the church pray for and advice the leadership of the House on Godly steps and precepts that will enable it serve the people effectively.
Earlier, Rt. Rev Ordu decried the state of schools in the state and urged the speaker to assist the church in reviewing the laws surrounding the return of the schools to mission so as to enable government include them in its maintenance and funding programmes.
The Bishop extended invitation to the speaker of the synod of the Evo Diocese coming later in the month.
