Rangers Shelve Strike After N1m Gift

Rangers have shelved an intended strike over a delay of their  five months salaries, in payment after they received a million Naira gift from club chairman Festus Onuh.
The players had threatened to down tools after their round of 16 Federation Cup victory over Kwara United if no effort was made to pay their outstanding salaries.
New commissioner for youth and sports Enugu State, Charles Ndukwe, who hosted the players to a round table chat presented the Rangers Board chairman’s gift to the team captain after he congratulated them for advancing to the quarterfinal of the cup competition.
“Let me assure you that our governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, is committed to settling your arrears of salaries,” he said.
“We are happy with your performance in qualifying for the quarterfinal of the Federation Cup and the progress you are making in the on-going premier league.
“You will get your arrears in the shortest possible time. We are poised to take Rangers to regain its lost glory and your contributions will to a large extent make this happen.”
Captain of the coal city side, Okey Odita, who received the money on behalf of the team, said, “We thank the government and chairman of Rangers for this show of concern and will not rest on our oars until we deliver the league and Federation cup to the good people of Enugu and Igbos in general.
“We, therefore, appeal for the quick resolution of our outstanding salaries for us to concentrate and push for both trophies.”
